University Centre Doncaster are pleased to announce that Simon Armitage will be joining us for World Book Night 2014.
Mr Armitage will be reading a selection of his published poetry and signing copies of his books afterwards. Further Information: Simon Armitage is a Yorkshire-born poet whose work is regularly studied as part of the GCSE and A-Level curriculums. He is, without doubt, one of the most acclaimed poets of our generation. His colloquial, vernacular style is set against his wonderfully contemporary, and often dark, subject matter. As well as his poetry, Simon Armitage can also be credited with a translation of the Middle English romance poem, Sir Gawain and the Green Knight. One review of his version in The Guardian claims that Sir Gawain "...takes you back closer to something of the thrill and wonder the poem would have had in the days when it was composed. It might even be the best translation of any poem I've ever seen." (Lezard, 2008). |
